Safety First
Let’s face it, Fido likes treats just as much as the neighborhood children do. However, all of that sugar is not safe for Fido, and some candy is made with xylitol, which can be deadly to a pet. Image may be NSFW.

Make sure you have the ASPCA Animal Poison Control’s number handy, as well as an emergency number for your veterinarian, just in case your pet gets hold of something that may be toxic to him.
Make sure electrical wires are safely tucked away, out of Fido’s reach. Your dog may not normally chew on electrical cords, however, when he is under stress, he may begin to chew on whatever he finds to relievImage may be NSFW.

As well as keeping cords kept nice and tidy, if you put out carved pumpkins with lit candles, keep in mind that they need to be out of the path of cats and dogs. It only takes a spooked pet to accidentally start a fire.
It would be a good idea to make sure your pet has his tags on, just in case he was to get loose.
Calming
If your dog becomes anxious with all of the ruckus, you can prepare early with a plan to reduce his anxiety, before the situation arises. If possible, have your pet confined in a room that is away from the front door, preferably with a family member so he doesn’t feel all alone.
You can also invest in a Thunder Shirt or Rescue Remedy for pets. These are only options and I would never recommend either of them be used on a long-term basis. It is always much better to find natural ways to calm your dog.
Dress Up
Some people really enjoy dressing Image may be NSFW.

On the other hand, if your dog is a ham and loves to play dress up, this would be a good time to show him off to the little goblins that come knocking on your door. Just be sure that your dog is not anxious anytime someone knocks on the door or rings the bell.Image may be NSFW.

There are a lot of really cool costumes on the market these days. Just be sure when you choose a costume for your pet that there are no dangling pieces that could get hung up on something. Equally, important things to watch for are anything on the costume that your dog may chew on.
Does your dog like to wear doggy costumes? Do you dress him up for different occasions?
